In between supporting Team GB in the most successful Olympics ever, we have been hard at work looking for ways to improve and refine our service to you, our customer. Together with our dispatch software provider we are starting to introduce online bookings for our account holders. Access our server with your own secure username & password and you can book journeys directly, modify existing bookings and view all your company's future journeys. This can be done 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The benefits are immense to companies operating with different departments over different time zones.
August saw the introduction of our trial shuttle bus service from Cambridge Airport to Cambridge Rail Station and city centre. This was a new venture for both Airport Lynx & Cambridge Airport; working together we provided a transport solution for passengers arriving on the new scheduled services. We are really pleased to be working with one of Cambridge's most prestigious organisations and excited to be involved in all the new plans there.
June saw the introduction of our new dispatch & database system. After searching the market for several months, we decided on a remote server system which allows us to access our bookings and data from anywhere with a broadband connection. Providing an efficient car service is so much more than simply turning up on time in a smart car: this system allows us to store passengers' details so they avoid the frustrating process of having to repeat their information more than once. Furthermore, it protects sensitive data, such as credit card details, through encrypted files. Companies rely on us to keep accurate information and this means we can now honour that commitment.
Another two drivers, David & Mark, joined our team having worked previously for competitor firms; we hope that they will be driving you for many years!
Marc, a further addition to the fleet, arrived in July and is driving our new Mercedes E220. Not only is this fitted with the usual leather, air conditioning and free Wi-FI but also has on board GPS traffic system, meaning he can avoid heavy traffic jams on your route.
Airport Lynx is delighted with the reception received for our new in-car Wi-Fi units. Customers can now enjoy free internet connection while travelling in our cars. The service was trialled in a few of the company cars and proved so popular that we have now fitted the majority of our vehicles with the new service. This means passengers can connect to their laptops to finish that important email and our overseas visitors can connect their mobile devices without incurring those high roaming charges. As a direct result of this unique selling point, a number of companies have opened new account facilities and many more are making enquiries.
After months of hard work from WebSpinning , our new look website was ready for launch. Important new features include simplified online booking and a testimonials section - we hope you like it. Les & Scott have joined the Lynx team, Les has many years of experience driving passengers to and from the airports, Scott is new to chauffeuring but learning fast!
After so many luxury saloons being added to our fleet we needed to add another people carrier. The Ford Galaxy is in our opinion perfect for taking larger parties for airport transfers to and from the Cambridge area and our new addition is already out working. Our new driver Paul lives in the Newmarket area and increases our capacity on the Cambs/Suffolk border.
Long wheelbase luxury has come to Airport Lynx. We have just added a top of the range Jaguar XJ Sovereign to our fleet and is the long wheelbase model that allows for maximum leg room. Finished in metallic blue with cream leather it is fully equipped with sat nav and climate control together with heated rear seats and Wi-Fi access. You can request this vehicle at a premium which will come with complimentary newspaper and bottled water.
Waterbeach is the new home for Airport Lynx! Early in November we moved out of Cambridge to a unit in Flint bridge Business Centre near Waterbeach. Conveniently situated on the A10 our new office has room for our four staff and visitors. All our computers operate a networked dispatch system to ensure total control of your travel booking. Please feel free to pop in for a coffee if ever you are passing.
In anticipation of next year being even busier, Sam has joined our booking office team. This will help us take your bookings quicker and more efficiently, working alongside Katie & Nicky, Sam is ready for your call. Another month and another new car! A Jaguar this time, light blue S-Type with black leather interior, Kevin is based near Chatteris and will help to cover all our pick ups north of Cambridge.
During a busy summer season one of our part time drivers George has decided to commit to Airport Lynx full time, George drives his own car - a new model Mercedes, one of only a handful working in Cambridge. After looking round his car I can confirm that Mercedes have surpassed themselves, the new car is more modern in feel without losing any of the quality feel, all this at up to 60mpg! Try it for yourself next time you want to travel to Stansted or Gatwick. Additionally we purchased a 9th Mercedes for new driver Georgi. Georgi is new to chauffeuring but did not want to work for anyone else and is keen to learn everything from our experienced team.
July has been our busiest month ever, we have completed over 1000 transfers this month, welcoming visiting language students into Cambridge as well as our regular business and holiday clients. Our booking office was tested more than ever and it was good to see that everything ran so smoothly. To cope with the additional demand Jake has joined Airport Lynx, Jake had some experience of airport transfers prior to joining us and is clearly enjoying his new job.
Another new car and another Mercedes! Our longest serving driver - Ian has been given our latest purchase and is ready to collect our customers in the small hours of the morning to all the London airports.
As part of our continued expansion program we have added another Mercedes E Class to our fleet. Just as with all our vehicles, the new vehicle has full leather upholstery and climate controlled air-conditioning and is already working taking passengers from Cambridge to Heathrow. Also this month we welcome Marco to our driving team. Marco drives his own vehicle, a top of the range Mercedes E-class as well!
After working together for some time Airport Lynx has merged with Cambridge Airport Cars. The new company builds on the high service levels set by both organisations and offers greater availability to our customers. The new company will operate from Cambridge and all staff will continue to be employed in their current positions. The merger re-establishes Airport Lynx as one of Cambridge's primary airport transfer services.
